Dawn Treader Story Boards

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Sketches for the Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader have been published online. Artist Thomas Nelson, who also drew for the first two Narnia films, has given us a glimpse into that world.

Please be advised that the images maybe parts of the story that have been discarded from the script as filming has not begun yet (Dawn Treader Aussie Schedule). As well, the images are not labeled and could be throw away boards from other Narnia films.

You decide!

Update 6/26: MundoNarnia has an interview with the artist.

Dawn Treader Concept Art

Staff Writer: DL Mullan

Scouring the web, the mention of some visual aids to help our imaginations touch a beloved movie got the mouse clicking. Unfortunately, the supposed concept art for the next Narnia movie has been removed from various sites citing "at the request of the artist." The notations not only included clips, but also links.

As a web savvy individual, I found the pieces in question without much fuss. The images are not labeled, so there is no direct confirmation of the studio or which movie is implicated.

Though many questions were formulated: Why have such images on your website if no one is supposed to know about them? I understand not displaying an artist's art on another site without expressed permission, but why not a link? Are we not to appreciate the process by which the pieces were created?

All but a couple of images are generic and beautiful fantasy pieces. No real movie to tag the artworks to accept for the two other pieces I mentioned. A lion, really? Did you not think fans could make the connection?

If the artist truly wanted to keep his concept art a secret from the rest of us, then why put those two images up with the others? I would have kept back the works of art that are obvious and let mystery surround the rest as mere pieces to behold. The industry would be satisfied and the audience would be none the wiser.

As an artist myself, I could not believe the audacity of the artist's look but don't touch policy toward his art. No watermarks. High resolution images. Are you nuts? My pieces have my web address imprinted on them as well my art is not printer ready. Changes need to be made, but perhaps by the artist and not the fans. As you have just discovered, you're art is not safe on the web.

For anonymity's sake, I will not mention the artist's name or provide any links. What I will say is the art in question is fantastic, beautiful, and story tells. No wonder in my mind as to why this gentlemen is a professional artist and that the images displayed will supposedly not be in the film itself. (Then why the hooplah?)

OHG will respect the artist and/or any contractual obligations for silence, but OHG feels displaying images no one can touch, feel, or experience is not art at all. Art is a symbol of our society and should be enjoyed by us all, even from afar.

All we ask is to link and let fans decide if the images convey the heart of Narnia.

Update 9/22: The artist's website no longer displays the images viewed as potential Dawn Treader Concept Art pieces- none that was discerned anyway. His industry reel is in video format (good for him) and is spectacular. The video enhances the individual artworks and is a great experience for art/movie lovers. Also, Narniaweb updated its page and has a link to the artist's website for those fans who are curious.

No Ophelia for Thy King

Staff Writer: Samuntha Mackenzie

Hamlet is without his princely king. Ben Barnes confirmed that he did not sign up for the re-imaging of the Shakespeare play/movie. He would have played Hamlet opposite Juno Temple as Ophelia. This version centers on the thoughts, feelings, and point of view of Ophelia instead of Hamlet.

Click to hear the Audio Interview with Ben Barnes at the New York premiere of Easy Virtue.

Next, the young British actor will begin filming The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in late July.

On the big screen, fans will see him in Dorian Gray, a film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray- sometime this fall.

Dawn Treader Release Date

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Thank Aslan, Fox does not have its reels up its projector. After Disney dumped the franchise for monetary reason known only to the studio, Fox kept the director and actors on board, the Dawn Treader. With a rework of the script and locations finalized, a release date was issued: December 10, 2010.

A Christmas release that should have gone to Prince Caspian, instead of the eight month delay of the DVD release.

Hopefully this movie will be better put together then Disney's mess-up of the franchise.

Dawn Treader's New Writer

Staff Writer: Samuntha MacKenzie

Fans are having mixed reviews over the new writer for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (VotDT). Michael Petroni is replacing Richard LaGravanese.

With LaGravanese's experience as a scriptwriter, director, and producer, he was a good choice to pen VotDT. Petroni has a similiar background of writer and director, however the experience level is half of Disney's first choice.

Sounds like production cost is a vital concern to Fox's interpretation of the Dawn Treader. Though budgetary concerns is at the forefront of every movie, this move seems to question the quality of the script.

Walden Media with its run of good, wholesome family entertainment, we hope that the change is in the best interest of the story and not the pocketbook.

Fires, Queensland, Narnia- Oh, my!

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

With the devastating fires in Australia this summer (our fall), the fate of Narnia's filming might have been in question. However, Queensland looks like the place where Fox can keep their production timeline in check.

With a quick internet search, OHG discovered a film school, many production companies, and other support mechanisms on the Gold Coast. So the future looks bright for the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

No Prince in New Moon

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Los Angeles agent Nick Reed, who represents Ben Barnes of Prince Caspian fame, has confirmed that Ben is amused with the attention he has received from the rumors, but has not been contacted for the film.

The speculation was that Ben would play Aro an Italian vampire in Twilight's New Moon.

With filming beginning in a few short weeks, New Moon has many roles to fill. Aro being one of them.

The latest news is only that the cast hasn't seen the script yet, and some roles haven't been cast. Too bad the director, Chris Weitz, doesn't have the production in line. Even more so, we're disappointed Ben isn't in the film.

Fox in the Narnia House

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

A week before Christmas 2008, Disney backed out of their deal with Walden Media to produce the third installment of the Narnia franchise.

The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader was saved by Fox. The company has worked with Walden Media in the past and now into the future.

The cast and director were kept intact by this move: Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes as well as the director Michael Apted. Our favorites return when filming begins sometime in summer of 2009 in Australia.

The expected date of release is Christmas of 2010 which is a far better date then earlier in the year: May of 2010. The film will now not be competing against Iron Man 2 and other major Hollywood releases for which curtailed the earnings of Prince Caspian (which was an excellent movie, btw).
