A dream sequence opens the film as Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) at the age of ten sails on a ship with her father, the Governor, to the Caribbean Fort in Port Royal on the crossing from England. Soon enough, Elizabeth sees a parasol floating on the water than a boy about her same age. Upon calling the attention of the crew the boy is brought aboard just in time to see the merchant vessel in flames.
Waking but for a moment the two children exchange introductions. Passing out again the boy is in Elizabeth's care, as such she notices the pirate's medallion around his neck and hides the trinket from the crew. Curiously Elizabeth glances toward the ocean to see the ghostly ship of the Black Pearl sailing away into the unknown. With that, Elizabeth wakes with a start and brings out the medallion from a secret compartment in a bureau drawer. Taking the medallion with her to the ceremony for the Commodore, she faints in her new dress and lands in the ocean below the fort.
The medallion calls to the Black Pearl where the ship returns that night to reclaim its gold, but not before the pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), saves Elizabeth from the ocean, is arrested, escapes, and confronts Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), the boy who was saved from the merchant vessels eight years prior.
The pirate captain is again caught and put into a jail cell awaiting his execution in the morning, however the Black Pearl comes for its bounty. Pirates raid the settlement of Port Royal, taking Elizabeth and leaving with their gold. Will doing his best to fight the pirates is rendered unconscious, upon his waking he boldly makes a stand to find Elizabeth but is turned away by the Commodore and the Governor. Will then goes to the jail to enlist the assistance of Captain Sparrow. Following Sparrow, the two commandeer one vessel, the Dauntless, to trick the fleet to giving him another, more speed worthy vessel, the Interceptor.
Unable to catch the pair, the Commodore watches Sparrow and Turner sail away with a ship of the fleet in his sabotaged vessel. Next the two comrades go to Tortuga to find a crew and then speed off to rescue Elizabeth, but not before Will discovers he is the son of a pirate. Unsure of his feelings, Will is mired with hatred for pirates and the actions of becoming one in order to save his childhood love. Then the real fun begins . . .
What a ride! Love this movie. This film was the best of the summer. Johnny Depp should get an Oscar for his performance, well at least a Golden Globe. He was fantastic. Orlando and Keira are the newest tag team in a wave of a "British Invasion." Orlando with the Lord of the Rings films and Keira with Bend it like Beckham and Love Actually, these two actors' stars are rising fast with the talent to back their box office lurability. Not to mention Orlando is handsome and Keira is beautiful. Last but not least, Geoffrey Rush is the best villain on the high seas. AHRRrrgh! Apple anyone?

Of course, I will be watching this DVD with several not-to-be-missed extras including 19 deleted or altered scenes, a blooper reel, and a script scanner until the next adventure is released. Read along the movie and see what lines were changed or omitted. The extras are great and easy to use for instance: Audio Commentaries from Cast and Film Makers. Change your appearance with the Special Effects Studio. A history of Pirates and the Disney attraction are included along with the Producer's Photo Gallery, Scene Progression, Image Galleries, Story Board Viewer and more. This set comes with two separate DVDs for all the swag that's aboundin' on them for your treasurer chest.
The movie will hit theaters sometime next March.
"The real credit has got to go to Johnny, Colin and Jude, which was an extraordinary thing, to come in," Gilliam stated to the Associated Press reporter David Germain. "They're all doing other films, they're involved in other projects, and they came to the rescue of this thing."
Gilliam had more praises for the three stars.
"They did it solely, basically, for nothing. The money they would have been paid went to Matilda, Heath's daughter. To me, they're the real heroes."
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
