Allusions of Parnassus

When Heath Ledger passed, director Terry Gilliam had nowhere to go. The film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was near half done with the star died. The project looked trashed until three Hollywood actors came forward.


Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell were cast to step into the incarnations of Ledger during otherworldly portions of the fantasy film.

"The real credit has got to go to Johnny, Colin and Jude, which was an extraordinary thing, to come in," Gilliam stated to the Associated Press reporter David Germain. "They're all doing other films, they're involved in other projects, and they came to the rescue of this thing."

Gilliam had more praises for the three stars.

"They did it solely, basically, for nothing. The money they would have been paid went to Matilda, Heath's daughter. To me, they're the real heroes."

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The film opens in Italy on September 4th. No word yet when American theaters will be able to show the movie.

Joker is an Ace

Tonight the Academy of Arts and Sciences awarded Heath Ledger with an Oscar for his supporting role in the Dark Knight.

His father, mother, and sister accepted the award on behalf of his daughter, Matilda. Michele Williams and their daughter were not present on stage.

The awards season has honored the work of Heath Ledger with many statues and standing ovations.

Joker's Wild

This Sunday Hollywood hosts the Academy Awards. Many actors, actresses, directors, and producers will be honored. Nominees will sit until one person's name is called to stand in front of the world and accept the Oscar. Tensions are high, especially in one category: Supporting Actor.

A little over a year ago, the actor who played the Joker in The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger, passed away. Ever since then, a campaign has been underway to honor his memory during this award season. He has won many prizes for his role.

Now, fans of the late actor want to create a moritorium on the character. Fans are asking the entertainment industry not to script, produce, or have someone act as the Joker.

Is this for a set amount of time or forever? Not sure. But like most wounds: time heals. Perhaps, the audience must need time or have one Joker per generation.

Still with time, we honor Heath and his contributions, but is it fair to prohibit the next Heath from showcasing his talent on the faded memory of another? Or, do we honor Heath by showing that no one can take his place no matter the incarnation?

Television show that combines Roman conquest of Briton with magic, courage, and politics. After his family is killed by the Romans, Conor bands together friends in order to unite the various Celtic tribes. Only together will the natives be able to overthrow Rome on their island.

With Queen Diana and the cursed Longinus on the side of Rome, Conor has many challenges ahead of him.

The acting was superb. Actors like Heath Ledger, John Saint Ryan, Lisa Zane, Vera Farmiga, Alonzo Greer, and Melissa George kept this series serious and intense.

Cinema Photography was beautiful and captured the dichotomy between nature and conflict. The characters were original and fascinating, especially: Fergus, Caitlin, Tully, and Molly (Fergus’s daughter).

This DVD set has all 13 episodes, including 5 episodes not shown on network television. A good series that lasted one season but could have lasted more
