Supernatural Thursdays

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

The CW is looking to keep fantasy and horror king on their fall Thursday schedule. Shifting Smallville to Fridays, the network picked up the Vampire Diaries. Based on a book series, the Vampire Diaries taps into the Twilight craze.

Supernatural is a keen, sharply written and smart show. If the newbie diaries is tween fare, then the two shows may not mix well.

The four year veteran show deals with dark and convoluted issues on par with adult sensibilities.

We'll see how tween the Vampire Diaries really are. Well, anything that keeps us away from the terrible HBO series, True Blood, is welcomed relief.

Golden Fangs Invisible Ghosts

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Award season is finished until the Emmy's so we get a moment to reflect, rejoice, and say what? At the Golden Globes, the vampire series: True Blood, garnered a best actress award as well as the show was nominated for best actor and television series. Anna Paquin is a well deserving actress for an award. True Blood is not.

This op-ed piece is about reality. True Blood is bad. Supernatural is good. Actually the series is very good. But being on the CW and not HBO, having no nudity versus explicit, nonsensical sexual scenes, the awards are given to . . . ?

Perhaps fans of the show, Supernatural, need to let the Golden Globes and Emmy's know just how much better PG can be against R, I mean XXX.

True Blood

Staff Writer: DL Mullan

2 out of 5 Shovels
HBO’s new series True Blood is about vampires coming out of the “coffin." Thanks to Tru Blood a Japanese synthetic that allows vampires to be free of their need for human blood, vampires can mingle with humanity.

Some parts were well casted like Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse. Still undecided were Stephen Moyer as Bill the vampire and Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton performances. Bill seems too gothic. Tara feels over the top.

Even if the first episode was uneven in direction and acting, the sexual scenes became NC-17 and jogged into the realm of porn. Just because a vampire show is on HBO does not give the creators artistic license to produce sex as an extreme sport, even if the sexual content is or isn’t in the book. A good half hour of the hour long premiere was wasted in favor of sex.

This show was a true waste of time.
