We all know the story of Robin Hood. Steal from the rich to give to the poor. Save England from the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John. Apparently Ridley Scott did not get the memo.
The retelling of Robin Hood has been dramatic: Prince of Thieves or comedic: Men in Tights. This version made me run screaming for Kevin Costner. I don't care if his accent was American. At least he got most of it right.
It'll be another decade before someone tries again. That means 9 1/2 years of referring to this unwatchable remake.

Robbin' Hood?
Staff Writer: Grave Digger
Ridley Scott is putting his spin on the old familiar tale. Once deemed Nottingham, the picture has been renamed the proper: Robin Hood.
At first Scott had a version of the movie with Russell Crowe as both the Sheriff and Robin. Now, Crowe will play only the part of Robin Hood.
The story has had many incarnations in Scott's hands and thus as a Robin Hood fan (the BBC series, Kevin Costner, and all), I am worried. We will have an evil Sheriff of Nottingham but now the French will have an antagonist storyline.
A retelling with a revisionist's pen means that the writers, director, and producers have no idea where they are going and when they get to the end of their budget, it's editing time!
Other notes: Cate Blanchett has replaced Sienna Miller in the film as Maid Marian.
The film's principle photography begins in April.

Princess of Thieves
Staff Writer: DL Mullan
4 out of 5 Shovels
Gwyn is the daughter of the most famous hoodlum in history. Her father is Robin Hood. But her fire and rebellious nature simmer under the surface. She ready to fight. She ready for action.
Robin quells her. He doesn’t realize Gwyn is impulsive. Just like him.
Just as King Richard succumbs to death, Prince Phillip is on his way to the throne. Prince John could succeed to King if Phillip is eliminated. Add the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, Friar Tuck, Froderick, and Merry Men and the fight begins.
Keira Knightley, Malcolm McDowell, Del Synnott, Stuart Wilson, Crispin Letts, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Jonathan Hyde, and Stephen Moyer are believable as characters from centuries past.
This film is a good live-action Disney flick. Comic book violence and innocent romance are a part of this movie, but so is the relationship between father and daughter.
At 88 minutes and a PG rating, this movie is good for the underage crowd.
