Pirates of the Uber Sequel

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Ahoy! Maties! Another installment of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean is in development. According to Johnny Depp anything is possible at this point in reference to story lines and characters.

Though criticisms have been levied at the franchise for "overly complicated" plots, this comedy and error subterfuge is what made the movies great. Will Jerry Bruckheimer and his creative team dumb down the next installment?

I hope not. Without the miscalculations and slapstick, what fun would a pirate movie be?

Princess of Thieves

Staff Writer: DL Mullan

4 out of 5 Shovels
Gwyn is the daughter of the most famous hoodlum in history. Her father is Robin Hood. But her fire and rebellious nature simmer under the surface. She ready to fight. She ready for action.

Robin quells her. He doesn’t realize Gwyn is impulsive. Just like him.

Just as King Richard succumbs to death, Prince Phillip is on his way to the throne. Prince John could succeed to King if Phillip is eliminated. Add the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, Friar Tuck, Froderick, and Merry Men and the fight begins.

Keira Knightley, Malcolm McDowell, Del Synnott, Stuart Wilson, Crispin Letts, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Jonathan Hyde, and Stephen Moyer are believable as characters from centuries past.

This film is a good live-action Disney flick. Comic book violence and innocent romance are a part of this movie, but so is the relationship between father and daughter.

At 88 minutes and a PG rating, this movie is good for the underage crowd.

King Arthur

Staff Writer: DL Mullan

3 ¾ out of 5 Shovels
Based on historical information, this version of King Arthur shows the legendary nobleman as man caught between two worlds: Rome and Briton. As a child of both, Arthur finds himself trying to uphold his views of equality while being undermined by Rome’s influence.

Soon Arthur realizes Rome is corrupt. He meets a Woot named Guinevere as he is sent to save a Roman family. Along the way, he meets adversaries and connects with Merlin.

Clive Owen as Arthur is a conflicted man. Guinevere by Keira Knightly can be soft, proud, and courageous. The Knights portrayed by Ioan Gruffudd, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Winstone, Joel Edgerton and Hugh Dancy are earnest and authentic.

Although the historical connection is not correlated with fact except that Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable existed, the movie is an inventive take on the legend. The movie was underrated by the critics and audiences.

PG-13 and a 125 minutes, the film doesn’t seem long but is violent.
