Dorian Gray in Cinemas

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Today the UK gets to see the adaptation of Dorian Gray. Starring Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, Rebecca Hall, Ben Chaplin, and Rachel Hurd-Wood.

In the States, we are in envy mode. We have to wait until a North American distributor picks up the film in order to see Dorian Gray in theaters.

The closest we will get is the World Premiere at TIFF on September 11th.

Dorian Gray Cinema Release Dates

Staff Writer: Samuntha Mackenzie

Because of changes in the release date for Dorian Gray, and our articles about the changes, we decided to post one last time.

Dorian Gray will be in UK Theaters on 9.9.09.

That's next Wednesday. We did not want to have any confusion.

Remember the World Premiere is at TIFF on September 11!

Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, and Rachel Wood are to be in attendance as per the TIFF Guest List. However Ben is filming Narnia, so he'll probably fly into Toronto in the afternoon, dress, go to premiere, unwind at some hobnob parties, then leave for Australia the next morning. (Unless Ben stays all weekend for the Sunday viewing of DG, which is highly unlikely with his Narnia schedule.) Colin has A Single Man he'll be promoting as well so he'll probably be more visible this year. Rachel will be doing her thing too. Good luck to the attendees to get a glimpse of Dorian Gray actors.

Other countries release dates are:

Canada 11 September 2009 (Toronto Film Festival)
Greece 17 September 2009
Italy 23 October 2009
Australia 12 November 2009
Finland 25 December 2009

DG Facebook:
September 6: The 18th Chichester International Film Festival
September 9: London Film Festival
Portugal - 09/10/09
Germany - Spring 2010
Australia & New Zealand - 12/11/09

When the US will see this film is up to who buys the distributing rights at TIFF. We hope it's a company that wants a quick release date. We want to see the film too!

Revolving Dorian Gray Dates

Staff Writer: Grave Digger

Another round of "change that release date" has struck the film of Dorian Gray. The new UK release is not published on IMDB, Momentum Pictures, Ealing Studios, or Facebook sites concerning the movie. Momentum has been informing websites via email.

Though OHG contacted Ealing Studios, the company never returned any of our email requests for updated information. However, Dorian Gray's IMDB page was changed to reflect September 11th as the release date instead of September 18th.

Now, the release date has been changed to September 9th.

Not disappointed the film will be released early, but disappointed the movie has no US release date yet.

Another disappointing factor is no TIFF premiere, or word of a world premiere date. We'll keep you posted.

Stop and Wait, DVDs Slow to Go

Staff Writer: Samuntha Mackenzie

Feeling that the wait between movie releases and their DVD counterparts is getting longer? You're not alone. Here's the data:

2007 - 125 days
2008 - 133 days
2009 - 144 days

If the box office for a movie garnered a mere $10 million, then the DVD will premiere in 129 days. 2008 saw 120 days.

Why the extra time? Easter was three weeks later then in previous years. It's a seasonal thing with the industry. In addition, studios must keep theater owners happy while juggling their responsibility to retail outlets. Still surprise hits and 3D movies can take longer at the theaters and in production.

As a consumer, I find, the longer I have to wait, the less enthused about the product I am. Prince Caspian was released in May but the DVD waited until December. When consumers have to wait too long, forgetfulness happens.

Plus dissatisfaction also increases as with Prince Caspian which had some neat features but was standard by most releases. With the first Narnia installment, extra minutes were added to the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Prince Caspian did not see an extension in time.
