The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The comic book, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, comes alive in this adaptation. Heroes: Captain Nemo, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Dorian Gray, Tom Sawyer, an Invisible Man, Mina Harker, and Allan Quartermain are summoned in order to stop an evil foe from conquering the world.

However the story did not translate well into film. Too much emphasis is placed on Allan Quartermain’s importance, action scenes, and special effects. The cast of Sean Connery, Peta Wilson, Shane West, Stuart Townsend, Richard Roxburgh, and Jason Flemyng appears to be wasted.

The movie is a collection of action sequences with little devotion to an original story. Though the scenes between Dorian Gray and Mina Harker hold the audiences interest. Captain Nemo and Allan Quartermain seem to dilute the film. A surprise is in store as Tom Sawyer adds where Quartermain is concerned.
