The first novel of Christopher Paolini is a culmination of several stories in book and film. Some terms could have been changed for more originality, but were not. For instance, the evil Empire is reminiscent of Star Wars.

In unguarded moments, the story engages the reader. The relationship between Eragon and Murtagh is understated but realistic. Most impressive scenes were between these two characters. Mature interpersonal concepts for a young writer to write, still were thoughtful and well expressed.
This book was a long but interesting read. The themes of friendship, brotherhood, and oppression resonate with the audience.
