Court Room Drama O'Rama

Staff Writer: Samuntha Mackenzie

John Grisham has lifted the veil. His self-imposed no novel to film rule has been ditched. The writer has since had The Testament optioned by Hollywood.

"The story is almost a collection of snapshots or vignettes. When they are all laid out, they tell the story like a scrapbook. Here we did this. Then we did that. His voice is not folksy, it's matter-of-fact. And, somehow, it just works."

Two other books are said to be ready for the big lights: The Partner and The Associate. The latter has Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan and Shia Labeouf attached.

With the Testament, Grisham received greater creattive control over the adaptation and a piece of the back-end as part of his cooperation.

Producers on board include Hunt Lowry, A Time to Kill for $6 million as well as Mark Johnson of Prince Caspian and 821 Entertainment.

A script writer has not been employed yet for the treatment.
