Spaceballs

Staff Writer: Samuntha Mackenzie

2 1/2 out of 5 Shovels
Pranks, antics, and comedic dialogue take this film into the category of spoof. No matter what, the actors cannot save the movie from itself. This review is not to say in parts the movie wasn’t funny, it is. But Mel Brooks seems to try too hard. When he doesn’t have a comedic bit available he relies on immature gags.

Principle characters Daphne Zuniga, Princess Vespa; Bill Pullman as Lone Starr; and Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet are humorous. The support cast is comical John Candy as Barf, Joan Rivers as Dot Matrix; and Dick Van Patten as King Roland.

That said, Spaceballs captivates the audience as a ludicrous, psychologically telling, and energetic parody. Just don’t view the movie as anything more.
